Subway anyone?

OK, I have gone to Subway twice in the last little while and I'm still reeling from the "sandwich artists" reactions to my order.  Every time I order I get a complete double take and they look at me like I'm crazy, then today the girl actually said, "OK, if that's what you want".  Aren't the vegetables there for a reason, to be eaten?  Like Joshua in Troll 2?  "Eat Fresh" means eat your veggie's right Subway?
I used to work at an inn and we would order from Subway quite often and after awhile I memorized everyone's order (Hilari I think I could still order a Subway sandwich for you).  Everyone has their own style and I don't think human nature allows us to switch it up much.  So, my question here is - what do all of you order at Subway?  Maybe it's a dumb question but I find it so intriguing. Here's my order, conversation style.

Me: "I'll take a 6-inch chicken breast (or turkey depending on the day) on wheat."
Sandwich Artist: "What kind of cheese?"
Me: "No cheese."
Sandwich Artist: "You want that toasted?"
Me: "No thanks."
Sandwich Artist: "Do you want vegetables? (This is really how she asked me this today!  Is it me or is this question just ridiculous?  Who (besides Marcos) doesn't get vegetables?  At least one right?)"
Me: "Yeah, I would like lots of everything, all the vegetables."
Sandwich Artist: (Here is where the double take and crazy person staring comes in.) "Everything?!?!?!!?  Are you sure?"
Me: "Yep, lots of everything."
Sandwich Artist: "OK, if that's what you want." (Looking down, shaking her head) "Even the banana peppers and hot peppers? (Sounding disgusted)./"
Me: "Yep, load them on."
Subway Artist: "Do you want some sauce?"
Me: "A little bit of honey mustard and some sweet onion sauce please.  And some salt and pepper."
Sandwich Artist: "Alright, that's a big sandwich."
Me: "Yes, it looks delicious, thank you."

That really happened today, pretty much word for word.  Am I a looney?  According to M. I am officially a looney because "no one wants a salad on their sandwich".  But then who puts pickles in a salad?  Anyway, if you feel so inclined to enlighten me with your subway order I'm definitely intrigued.

p.s. check out Between Linnet and Linen to see if you won the giveaway!

Random Happenings as of late

Before M. went back to teaching for the summer, we went on a few adventures.  Our trip to Chicago was one of them and then we played and played until our 1999 party was over.  Here are a few pictures from Nashville Indiana, the most adorable little tourist trap in Indiana.  It really was so cute and fun and great. (Kelse, this is where I got your present, it was so reminiscent of our fun times I couldn't resist.)  So, enjoy our happenings as of late.

This little ice cream shop had the BEST ice cream in the world.  Alright, I know I'm not exactly an authority on ice cream but I've had a lot of it in my day and this was the BEST I have ever had.  So heavenly.  They had strange flavors too like persimmon, apple butter and pumpkin pie.  Of course we had to try all of those and they were delicious.  If you have a chance to go to Nashville, stop in the little ice cream shop with the creepy fake people playing the old player piano in the entry.  It doesn't get better than that.
 Givin' smooches.

E. lovin' on his ice cream.
Is that not the creepiest thing you've ever seen in your life, and yet the coolest thing ever?!?!?!  Yeah, I almost peed my pants when I looked up and saw that.  Creepy.
We ventured over to Brown County State Park and had a great time.  Here are a couple shots of E. being a little snap-shot of cuteness.

Isn't it beautiful?  Indiana has it's charms.
Next we went over to Bloomington, our rival town (down with IU!) and had some great Mexican food.  The best we've had in Indiana fo' sho'!  E. had mixed feeling apparently.
Now, after our trips we have been stuck here with storms and M. teaching.  So here are some random shots of our crazy fun.

I bought this pair of yellow heels and E. has had some strange love for them.  He's never been interested in my heels before, my big rainboots on the other hand are a constant entertainment but my heels have never been appealing, until...these.  Look at that fierce face, he's all about the model network, he's working it for sure.

One little toy, so much trouble.

I LOVE this picture, it's what I see so often and never get to share with the world, I've finally captured it.  They were soaking wet, you can't really tell in the lighting but they went to town with that little soaker.
This is what the sky looked like just 15 minutes or so after we came in from playing.  We waiting out the night downstairs this night.  Lame storms.

We went to the Taste of Tippecanoe last week and had a good time eating and sweating and playing and sweating.  We did get some moldy pita with our hummus that we had to return and got ripped off a few times but overall we had a lovely time.
 And met a chicken.
You would think the mango lassi mustache would make him happy, nope, not this little grump.  He drank it all and was still grumpy - 2 year old!

We have to get the pineapple coconut fried rice every year with our favorite mango lassi.  Yum.
 And a gyro for M.
 So patriotic.
We finished it off with some fried ice cream - so delicious.  Ahhh...I want some right now actually.
Well, again, another enormous post.  If you made it through - congratulations, I've very appreciative of your patience, you must really like us or be incredibly bored.

Another giveaway for Between Linnet and Linen

Alright all you faithful readers of this blog: I'm asking for a bit of help.  Inspired by my friend Kim's new upcycled blog, Upcycled (which I will hopefully be doing a guest post on soon), and inspired by my friend Jessica's amazingly crafted blog, Jessica Bateman Photography, and a little inspiration from some cosmic Buffy the Vampire Slayer force...I revamped (get it) my Between Linnet and Linen blog.  Hopefully this blog is more professional, more beautiful and more "inspired."  I really want this to become a legit business so I need a bit of help from all of you.

I'm going to do a quasi-giveaway on this blog but it's mostly just that I really need all your help.  I want to get this business advertised and coolified so here's the skitch: check out my blog for the details and you can get all filled in.

Alright, no more pushing my product on this blog - I'm done, kaput, hallelujah no more bugging all of you - but hey, you might win something right? Thanks y'all.

More storms and a vent

Alright people, what is up with Indiana right now?  We were up all night last night (probably a bit too paranoid because of our previous storm experience but nonetheless up all night) watching the three storm systems that passed over us.  OK, so seriously Indiana, we're all traumatized and hating this weather.  Then today is going to be the hottest day of the year?!?!?  Come on!
Alright, now that I have shared that vent here comes another.  Why don't people finish reading their emails?  I get that people are busy, I have a two year-old, a job, and I'm trying to start a business, I'm busy too.  But I read my emails from start to finish.  Is it really that hard to read another three sentences after you scan the first one?  Do you think people just write fluff that doesn't need to be in there just because THEY have the time?  If I'm going to write an email four sentences long, don't you think the last three were put in the with INFORMATION in them!?!?!?!  Come on all you idiots out there - read your stupid emails!  I read yours!

Disclaimer: This doesn't have anything to do with (hopefully) all of you that read this, I'm giving you all the benefit of the doubt - preaching to the choir kind of thing alright?

Mario's New Website

For those who are interested (which Mario is prepared to admit must be few), Mario (previously concealed as M.) has created a new website:

mdouglass.wordpress.com

For now the site will only exist for professional purposes but Mario will most likely be "blogging" again in the future. He someday hopes to change the domain name to something more obvious but these things take time and money.

Thank you

Chi - ca-a -go!!!!

We were able to head up to Chicago Monday morning and had a ton of fun.  Here are some fun pics to tell the story.
First, and possibly most importantly I have to announce...(da da da) E. is potty-trained!  Can you believe it because I sure can't.  We are so happy and proud of this little pooper (yes, pun totally intended).  He's a champ and didn't have one accident while we were in Chicago, he's a stud.  We even walked four blocks and a couple flights of stairs to find a bathroom for him and he held it like a pro.  So, moving on from potty talk, the "Diaper Fairy" came to see E. Monday morning.  My sister invented this clever little fairy and the fact that she was bringing him new Thomas trains motivated him to get the deed done.  Here is his surprised face and what was in his chair.

We then traveled up, stopped at Ikea on the way, and then on to Navy Pier.  We loved the pier and we felt like we were really back east looking at the ocean.  The lake is just so darn huge, I've been to a lot of lakes and I've never seen anything like that.  It was really beautiful.
We found a little place that miraculously had a bite-size Thomas running and we bought two rides for $3.  I think E. could have just died of happiness - he was in love and really didn't want to leave.  Luckily we rode a boat after this or he never would have left.

I don't know what's with these goofy faces but there's a really cool ship behind them.  It only runs a few days a year and it looks like a cool, old, pirate ship.  It was sweet.

 That's right - it's real.

This was seriously weird, not weird in a good way because I usually like that but weird in a "seriously?" kind of way.  Four people with really bad dance moves dancing to small clips of songs put together that made no sense at all.  Weird but possibly M's secret favorite moment of the trip.
We took a little boat ride from the Pier and saw the city from afar.  This was the other highlight of our little trip.  E. kept trying to jump ship (the grandmother next to me kept twitching because she was so nervous I was going to let him go) and M. was just too darn excited I thought he was going to start crying or something.  It was fun.

Then we ventured over to Buckingham Fountain where E. was again amazed by something huge and full of water.  Don't laugh at my awesome jumping shot, I know baby's got no air.

Next we went to the Crown Fountain, a favorite of E's and let him run around until he was frozen.  Then we went for some Chicago-style pizza downtown.

Now to the reason we actually went to Chicago in the first place.  One of our favorite bands She and Him did a free concert in Millenium Park.  It was amazing, except it was absolutely packed and we couldn't see and we could barely hear over all the weirdo's there talking over the band.  But we aren't bitter at all.  It's not like we drove two hours to go to a concert and everyone else there just went to eat their brie and drink their wine and talk loudly with each other while we strained to listen.  Ok, it wasn't really that bad, I'm exaggerating but look at these pictures.
This is when we first got there - half hour early no less.

This is after we had been there for awhile.

Then the swarms of people.  They couldn't start the concert until they had cleared the aisles for safety reasons.  Seriously?
This is the before and after shot of the cinnamon covered almonds we bought on the pier and devoured in about 10 minutes - E. just kept asking for more.
E. kept pulling goofy faces all night.  These are two of my favs.

They don't call it the windy city for nothing'!  It was cold!
I hope you enjoyed traveling with us!
